North Stars’ Mann named Pizza Hut player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced today that Thunder Bay North Stars goaltender Eric Mann has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the opening period of the playoffs.
In his first SIJHL playoff start the 18-year-old rookie was solid in helping his side edge the Fort Frances Lakers 4-3 in the initial game of the 1 vs. 2 Showdown Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.
Despite the Stars getting nearly doubled up in the shots on goal department in the contest the CCM first team all-star was equal to the task making 40 saves in the triumph over the regular season champion Lakers.
Earning honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week was A.J. Rupert; (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Alex Hester, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Greg Harney, (G) English River Miners; Brent Aiken, (F) Fort Frances Lakers and Griffin Strain, (G) Wisconsin Wilderness.
The SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
