Miners Open December With Weekend Sweep Of Islanders

Aiden Corbett’s 9 point weekend led the way for the Red Lake Miners in a weekend sweep of the Kenora Islanders.

Friday night action saw the Islanders strike first on Brayden Mackay’s 5th of the season.  Matthew MacPherson’s 5th followed by Luke DeCorby’s 10th gave the Miners a 2-1 lead.  Grayson Chell scored a short handed marker to tie the game at 2 before Matthew Lysak scored his first Junior A goal to put the Miners up 3-2.  Jeremiah Jacques would round out the first period scoring and the game was tied 3-3 after 20 minutes of play.

The second period belonged to the Miners. Nathan Dann scored his 12th followed by Foxx McColl’s 2nd put the Miners up 5-3.  Noah Tenney added his 7th before Brody Lindal scored his 7th to give the Miners a 7-3 lead after 40 minutes.

Noah Tenney opened third period scoring with his 8th before Aiden Corbett netted his 11th and 12th to finish off the scoring for a 10-3 Miners win.

Noah Davis picked up the win for the Miners while Kaden King took the loss for the Islanders

Saturday night was all Miners for the second straight night.

Nathan Dann opened up the scoring with his13th of the season to get the Miners on the board.  Peter Forester would score his first Junior A goal to put the Miners up 2-0. Blake Hiltermann would put a rebound  home for his 6th of the season before Aiden Corbett scored his 13th to give the Miners a 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Bradyn Rowsell would score his first Junior A goal late in the second period to put the Miners up 5-0.

Third period action had Aiden Corbett score his 14th, followed by Foxx McColl’s 3rd on the power play put the Miners up 7-0. Carter Deschamps scored his 5th of the season before Reid Pitura scored his first Jr A goal to finish of the scoring for a 9-0 Miners win.

Ethan Neitsch stopped all 22 shots for the shut out while Connor Dunham-Fox took the loss for the Islanders.

AP Players Matthew Lysak, Peter Forester and Reid Pitura all scored their first Junior A goals during their weekend call up.
