Lakers’ Nolan named SIJHL’s Gongshow Gear playoff MVP

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced following the completion of the Bill Salonen Cup league championship series Wednesday evening that Fort Frances Lakers forward Miles Nolan has been selected the Gongshow Gear Inc. most valuable player of the playoffs.

Nolan helped pace the Lakers to their first-ever SIJHL championship, as they rallied form a 3-1 series deficit to win the final three games and claim the title, by leading all skaters in postseason points with 15 in 13 playoff contests.

Among the offensive efforts for the 19-year-old Nolan, who hails from Geraldton, Ont., was a SIJHL-high 10 goals.

He also led the way in game-winning tallies with three.

Nolan will receive a gift package courtesy for his efforts, courtesy of Gongshow Gear Inc., the SIJHL’s official lifestyle hockey apparel partner and sponsor of the league’s performer of the month and playoff MVP awards.

The Lakers now move on to represent the SIJHL at next week’s Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A championship in Wellington, Ont.

Fort Frances opens up play at the Dudley-Hewitt Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. vs. the Ontario Junior Hockey League champion Toronto Lakeshore Patriots.

They’ll meet the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, title holders of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Wednesday, also at 2:30 p.m. before wrapping up round robin play next Thursday against the host Wellington Dukes at 7:30 p.m.

At stake at the DHC is a berth in the RBC Cup Canadian Jr. A championship May 10-18 in Vernon, B.C.
