Lakers’ DeBenedet commits to Northland College

FORT FRANCES – The two-time defending Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Fort Frances Lakers have announced that forward Lucas DeBenedet has committed to play NCAA hockey at Northland College in Ashland, Wis.

The Lumberjacks are members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

In two seasons with the Lakers the 19-year-old DeBenedet helped lead Fort Frances to back-to-back SIJHL Bill Salonen Cup championships.

The International Falls product skated in 90 career regular season games for the Lakers amassing 170 points on 70 goals and 100 assists.

DeBenedet also supplied 12 power play markers, six shorthanded and eight game-winners.

Former Lakers that will be on the Northland roster in 2015-16 include forward Brandon Fehd and goaltender Tyler Ampe.
