Iron Rangers blank Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Minnesota Iron Rangers goaltender Kyle Carignan posted his second consecutive shutout, stopping all 32 shots he faced in a 6-0 triumph over the Fort Frances Lakers Tuesday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ice for Kids Arena.

Jack Crister supplied the only goal his side would need four and a half minutes into the opening stanza for the lone tally of the first 20 minutes.

Minnesota blew the game open in the second stanza tacking on four more markers to go up by five after the middle session.

After Seth Chumley made it 2-0 nine minutes into the frame, Tristen Sabina increased the Iron Rangers lead at 13:34.

The visitors them struck twice late in the period with a shorthanded effort by Jason Reynolds before Hunter Routheau connected with two seconds remaining to extend the cushion.

Chumley than capped off the scoring midway through the third to put an exclaimation point on the Minnesota victory.

Devin Tappenden allowed four against in 38 minutes of work and suffered the loss while Ryan Ferguson gave up a pair in relief on a night that saw the Iron Rangers out shoot Fort Frances 42-32.

SIJHL action resumes Thursday as the same two teams finish off a home-and-home at Hoyt Lakes Arena starting at 7 p.m.
