Ice Dogs take 3-1 series lead on Iron Rangers

DRYDEN, Ont. – Dryden GM Ice Dogs forward Blake Berg scored 30 seconds into the contest and added another in the final minutes to help his side pull out a 5-3 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Tuesday night in Game 4 of their Superior International Junior Hockey League semifinal series at Memorial Arena.

With the decision, Dryden now leads the best-of-seven set 3-1 and will have an opportunity to close out the series Thursday in Game 5 at Hoyt Lakes Arena at 7 p.m.

Berg was quick to get the Ice Dogs going as he struck for his side in the opening shift of the contest.

Minnesota pulled even in the latter stages of the period as Seth Chumley beat Dryden starter Tate Sproxton to knot the affair at 1-1.

Alex Arnold put the vistors in front 2-1 midway through the contest only to see Jonathon Philley strike shorthanded to tie things up.

The Iron Rangers went back in front thanks to Matt O’ Dea, but the Ice Dogs knotted the score at 3-3 on a Derek McPhail power play marker in the latter stages of the stanza.

With overtime looming, Dryden got the game-winner from Nick Eytcheson with 2:15 remaining in regulation before Berg added some insurance late to secure the victory for Dryden.

Philley and Cole Golka had two assists apiece to aid the offensive cause for the winning side.

Sproxton picked up the win in goal for the Ice Dogs while Devin Tappenden suffered the loss. Shots on net were 39-36 in favour of the Iron Rangers.
