Ice Dogs’ Hester named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Alex Hester of the Dryden Ice Dogs has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the time frame concluding March 23.

In three games last week the19-year-old forward from Wakaganish, Que., scored in each of them amassing five goals while adding an assist for six total points.

Hester began his solid week by notching a hat trick and setting up another in a win over English River last Wednesday.

The Ice Dogs forward than tacked on tallies in each of his last two games as well in Dryden’s quarter-final series against English River.

Hester has scored in each of the first five games in the quarter-final series vs. the Miners.

He currently leads all SIJHL shooters in both total playoff goals with seven and overall points with nine having figured in on over 56% of the marking the Ice Dogs have notched so far.

Dryden will look for more of the same from Hester tonight heading into game 6 of their playoff series at Memorial Arena at 7:30 p.m. as the Ice Dogs face a must-win scenario as the Miners lead the best-of-seven series 3-2.
