Grzelewski scores 4 as North Stars edge Miners; Lakers top Wilderness

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay North Stars rookie forward Zach Grzelewski scored all four goals for his side to lead them past the English River Miners 4-3 while the surging Fort Frances Lakers stayed hot as they dropped the Wisconsin Wilderness 6-1 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Friday evening.

THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS 4 ENGLISH RIVER MINERS 3 – At Ear Falls Arena it was Thunder Bay’s Grzelewski who stole the show netting all four of his team’s markers in the triumph over English River.

After a scoreless opening stanza the North Stars rookie tallied three times in the middle session to put his side up 3-1 after 40 minutes with Ryker Moreau countering for the Miners in the period.

Grzelewski then notched his fourth of the evening early in the third to extend the visitor’s lead before Brendan Wilde added a pair late to make it interesting before time ran out.

Daniel Delpaggio and Matthias Gardiman both doles out three assists apiece for the North Stars while Grzelewski also saw a consecutive game point streak reach eight straight.

English River outshot Thunder Bay by a 37-27 count in the game. Nathanial Dupuis picked up the win and Greg Harney suffered the loss.

FORT FRANCES LAKERS 6 WISCONSIN WILDERNESS 1 – The home town Lakers scored twice in each period to stay hot as they dumped Wisconsin at Ice for Kids Arena.

Mason Meyer continued his torrid play for Fort Frances by scoring once and dishing out four assists in the win as he extended a consecutive game point streak to eight games. He has amassed 21 points in that span, including seven goals.

Lucas Debenedet and Lyndon Lipinski sandwiched markers around one by Wisconsin’s Justin Gregory to account for the first period scoring.

Meyer and Cody Wickstrom then added efforts in the middle session to make it a 4-1 game after 40 minutes.

The Lakers then finished things off in the third getting tallies from Miles Nolan and Lipinski to round out the scoring.

Ryan Ferguson picked up the win in net for Fort Frances while Griffin Strain suffered the loss in a game that saw Fort Frances out shoot the Wilderness 40-23.
