Fort Frances earns weekend split with Thief River Falls

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – An Ethan Carlson-Jourdain goal just 24 seconds into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Fort Frances Lakers went on to edge the Thief River Falls Norskies 2-1 Saturday evening in a low-scoring Superior International Junior Hockey League affair at Ice for Kids Arena.

After Thief River Falls took the opener Friday in a shootout in this weekend home-and-home, they began the scoring in this one late in the first frame on a Tyler Johnson effort.

The Lakers did battle back to knot the affair at 1-1 after 40 minutes thanks to Kyle Uzelman who got help from Noah Loveday and Keirnan Bailey at 12:54 of the second stanza.

Fort Frances then got the difference maker early in the third thanks to Carlson-Jourdain’s second deciding tally of the season.

Lakers’ goaltender Dean Buchholz did the rest, finishing with 32 saves to record the victory.

Meanwhile, Joshua Seeley in the Norskies’ net made 33 stops in suffering the narrow defeat.
