Fort Frances defeats English River 3-1

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – A night after wrapping the regular season title in the Superior International Junior Hockey League, the Fort Frances Lakers continued their winning ways Wednesday as they defeated the English River Miners 3-1 at Ear Falls Arena.

Kevin Kurm gave the visitors the lead with the only tally of the opening 20 minutes as he connected on the power play at 17:43.

English River pulled even midway through the second stanza courtesy of Paul Lamoureux’s 16th of the campaign.

The Lakers went back on top late in the middle session markers 15 seconds apart from Mason Meyer, with the eventual game-winner, along with some insurance off the stick of defenceman Aaron Wesley-Chisel, who scored for a second straight night.

Neither side would find the back of the net in the final frame as Fort Frances held on for the win.

Devin Tappenden made 28 saves to pick-up the victory in net for the Lakers who fired 35 shots on P.D. Melgoza of the Miners.
