Vader backstops Miners to win over GM Ice Dogs

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The English River Miners received a 37-save performance for goaltender Korlan Vader to help them defeat the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 3-2 Tuesday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Cochenour Arena.

Dryden got on the board with the lone marker of the opening period as Matt Houston struck shorthanded 8:21 into the frame.

English River pulled even early in the middle frame thanks to Brandon Workun’s first SIJHL goal at 2:49 of the second.

Konnor Dechaine staked the Miners to their first lead 8:05 into the third only to see the GM Ice Dogs tie it just 16 seconds later courtesy of Tanner Watt.

English River came right back however and picked up the game-winner less than a minute later as Kyle Crawford buried the eventual difference maker.

Bryan Kromm dished out a pair of assists on the Miners final two tallies to help them secure the two points.

Final shots on goal in the contest were 39-19 in favour of Dryden with Vader earning the victory and Paul Leferriere suffering the loss.
