Thunder Bay picks-up split with league-leading Thief River Falls

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – A night after having a 13-game winning streak snapped by the Thief River Falls Norskies, the Thunder Bay North Stars began a new run with a 4-2 victory over the Norskies Thursday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Thunder By picked up the lone marker of the opening 20 minutes as Alex Leonidis collected his fourth goal of the season at 14:24.

Brendan Gillis upped the North Stars lead four and a half minutes into the middle session only to see Blair Lindholm redirect a Jake Eischen shot to put the Norskies on the board at 8:34.

Connor Bowey then tied things up for Thief River Falls five minutes later, but a Ryan Mignault power play marker a few shifts later proved to be the eventual game-winning goal for Thunder Bay.

Bradley Thrower added some insurance for the visitors in the latter stages of the contest to round out the night’s scoring.

Dougie Newhouse made 26 saves to record the win for the North Stars while Bailey Schmitz faced 32 shots in defeat for the Norskies.

With the result, Thunder Bay improved to 31-12-3-0 while league-leading Thief River Falls slipped to 34-7-0-2.
