Lakers gets goals from 6 different skaters in win over Wilderness

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The lone contest on the Superior International Junior Hockey League schedule Saturday night saw the Fort Frances Lakers get goals from six different skaters as they defeated the Wisconsin Wilderness 6-2 at Ice for Kids Arena.

Riley Daly notched the only tally of the opening period as he beat Wisconsin starter Griffin Strain at 6:36.

Fort Frances then jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes getting markers in the middle session from Lyndon Lipinski and Donovan Cousineau.

Alex Rezansoff put the Wilderness on the board 3:10 into the final frame only to see the hosts answer back with efforts from Cam Gobeil and Lucas Debenedet to make it 5-1 with half a session to go.

The two sides then exchanged late goals to round out the scoring with Shane Billings connecting for Wisconsin and Kyle Lipinski countering for the Lakers.

Debenedet and Lyndon Lipinski also added two assists apiece to aid the cause while Kevin Kurm supplied a couple of helpers of his own in the triumph.

Ryan Ferguson stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced to improve to 10-1-0-1 in 14 appearances.

Strain saw 30 attempts sent his way in defeat for the Wilderness.

Sunday features one game on the slate as the Dryden Ice Dogs host the Thunder Bay North Stars in a 4:30 p.m. start at Memorial Arena.
