English River extends win streak to 6

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The English River Miners scored four unanswered goals in the third period to propel them past the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 6-3 Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Cochenour Arena.

English River got a pair of markers from Dwayne Auger along with a 34-save performance from netminder Spencer Eschyschyn to help them secure the comeback win.

Dryden opened the scoring near the five-minute mark of the first on a Matt Leniuk effort before Jamie Driedger notched his fifth of the campaign on a man advantage opportunity midway through the session.

Sam Marit put the GM Ice Dogs back in front late in the frame as he collected his fourth tally of 2016-17.

After Eric Stout made it 3-1 Dryden with a power play effort at 11:31 of the second, the Miners started their rally with Michael Di Lullo’s first SIJHL goal just over three minutes later.

Entering the third, Auger tied it 75 seconds in with an early man advantage chance.

Cameron Novak then supplied the eventual game-winner at 9:09 while Auger added some insurance with his second of the session with three and a half minutes to go before Austin Kuhn iced it with an empty netter late to complete the come from behind triumph.

Taylor Unruh faced 35 shots in defeat for Dryden.

With the victory, 7-2-0-0 English River wins their sixth consecutive game and moves one point past 6-2-1-0 Dryden into second spot in the SIJHL standings.
