Dryden strikes late to edge English River
COCHENOUR, Ont. – Braeden Allkins’ Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading 52nd goal of the season, with 90 seconds remaining in regulation, allowed the visiting Dryden GM Ice Dogs to edge the English River Miners 4-3 Tuesday at Cochenour Arena.
Dryden also started strong in the contest as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on tallies from Allkins and Braedyn Aubin, just 17 seconds apart, in the game’s opening two minutes.
Austin Kuhn got the Miners on board midway through the second as he notched the lone marker of the middle frame.
Kuhn’s second of the night, and 19th overall, levelled the proceedings at 5:21 of the third while teammate Jamie Driedger’s 24th put the home side in front just over four minutes later.
However the GM Ice Dogs tied it at 14:14 when defenceman Tristan Knott scored on the power play for the visitors.
Then with overtime looming, Allkins continued his tremendous 2016-17 campaign for Dryden by providing his SIJHL-best eighth game-winning marker of the season while extending his franchise single-season goal record in the process.
Allkins also ran a consecutive game point streak to 11 in the match-up.
Dante Raposo assisted on all three English River tallies in defeat.
Ben Dennis made 36saves to post the win for Dryden while Michael Lenko faced 32 shots in defeat for the Miners.
