Court counts 4 points as Ice Dogs defeat Lakers in game 3

DRYDEN, Ont. – Needing a win to get back into their Superior International Junior Hockey League playoff series with the Fort Frances Lakers, the Dryden Ice Dogs did just that, as they got a big performance from rookie forward Rory Court to lead them to a 4-1 triumph Monday evening in game three of the best-of-seven affair held at Memorial Arena.

With the victory the Ice Dogs now trail the series 2-1 heading into game 4 Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. back in Dryden.

Court was instrumental in an impressive first period for the home side as the 18-year-old Winnipeg native tallied twice on Fort Frances starter Talor Joseph and set-up Cole Sonstebo for another to put his team up 3-0 after 20 minutes in a session in which they outshot the Lakers 13-4.

The visitors finally solved Dryden netminder Eric Szymczyk with 4:37 to go in the middle session with Alex Bruess notching his third of the postseason to give the Lakers some life entering the final frame.

However it was Court who finished his solid effort by assisting on the Ice Dogs fourth and final goal of the evening, which came on the power play, at 5:05 of the final stanza courtesy of Paul Thompson.

Dryden captain Jesse Linner also chipped with a pair of helpers in the triumph.

Shots on goal favoured the Ice Dogs 32-22 with Szymczyk picking up the win and Joseph the loss.
