Lakers’ Minerva named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Nick Minerva has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending March 20.
In three outings to conclude the SIJHL’s regular season, the now 20-year-old blueliner amassed nine points as Fort Frances skated to a trio of victories over the English River Miners and help the Lakers finish up on an eight-game winning streak.
The New Brunswick, N.J., product began by scoring twice and adding two assists in a 5-1 triumph Friday.
Saturday Minerva notched another marker and doled out three helpers in a 6-3 decision.
Minerva then capped off his week by setting up the game-winner in overtime as Fort Frances won a team single season franchise-best 46th game Sunday afternoon to conclude the regular season portion of the 2015-16 campaign.
In 52 games the Lakers D-man topped all SIJHL rearguards in offensive production 73 points on 21 goals and 53 assists.
That was also the second highest total in the league among all skaters.
