Wilderness winning streak reaches 15
CLOQUET, Minn. – Jake Larson tallied twice and set-up the game-winner to help lead the Minnesota Wilderness past the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-2 Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet.
The victory was the 15th in a row for the Wilderness who are an impressive 27-3 on the season.
Currently the No. 2 ranked club in the entire 128-team Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Wilderness stormed out to a 3-0 lead after one period on home ice after Larson netted the opening two goals then helped feed Michael MacKinnon for the other.
Luke Karakas put the Iron Rangers on the board midway through the middle frame as he notched his 11th of the campaign at 10:52 for the only effort of the session.
Nick McCormack extended the Wilderness lead in the third before Trevor Hoth replied late for the Rangers to wrap up the scoring on the evening.
JoJo Jeanetta turned aside 34 of 36 attempts he faced to pick up his 13th win of the season, which ties him for the SIJHL lead with teammate Gordie Defiel and Dryden’s Eric Szymczyk.
Chase Hollander faced 40 shots in a losing cause as his side slipped to 14-15-2-0 on the year.
League play resumes Saturday in Duluth with day one of the SIJHL Showcase where all six member clubs will meet in the two-day event that features three games each day.
