Young’s 4-point night leads Miners over Norskies

RED LAKE, Ont. – Bryce Young tallied three times and added an assist to lead the Red Lake Miners to a 4-2 victory over the Thief River Falls Norskies in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Saturday evening at Cochenour Arena.

Young started off his offensive output near the five-minute mark of the first period during a two-man advantage by quickly finishing off a Spencer Milne face-off win.

It stayed 1-0 Red Lake until past the midway mark of the contest when Tate Steffan tied it for the Norskies though at 10:44.

Stratton Pickett put the Miners back on top though before the second was complete as he notched his third of the young season at 17:04.

Brett Piper of Thief River Falls then levelled the proceedings once more as he converted during a man advantage opportunity four and a half minutes into the third.

However Young put Red Lake back on top for good 63 seconds later before he iced it in the final moments with an empty netter to help secure the victory.

Milne had two assists for the Miners.

Red Lake held the edge in shots 36-33 with Zach Willms earning the win while Fletcher Bolda suffered the loss.

With the result Red Lake improves to 3-1 with their third straight victory while Thief River Falls slipped to 2-3 early on the campaign.
