SPOONER, Wis. – A Lukas Lundgren power play goal midway through the second period held up as the game-winner for the Wisconsin Lumberjacks as they went on to edge the Thief River Falls Norskies 2-1 Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Spooner Civic Center.
After combining for 13 tallies in a high-scoring affair Friday, this clash was much tighter throughout.
Following a scoreless first frame, Thief River Falls opened the scoring, while up a skater, to begin the middle session that resulted in Tyler Johnson being credited with his 19th marker of the season, just 38 seconds in.
Wisconsin came back with the equalizer just over four minutes later as Tyler Hunt stuffed in his fourth of the year off an Alex Bren set-up.
The Lumberjacks then got the decider half way through the evening when Lundgren was left with a tap in into the open side off a cross-crease pass from Joel Matthews.
Neither club would add another offensive effort before time expired as the hosts held on from there to secure the home ice victory.
Shots on goal finished up 38-28 in favour of the Norskies with Nathan Mueller getting the win while Joshua Seeley suffered the narrow defeat.
