Thunder Bay wins 8th straight with OT triumph over Thief River Falls

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A Jake Robinson goal 68 seconds into overtime proved to be the difference as the Thunder Bay North Stars won their eighth Superior International Junior Hockey League game in a row by edging the Thief River Falls Norskies 4-3 Friday at the Fort William Gardens.

Alec Daman opened the scoring for Thief River Falls 11 minutes into the contest beating Thunder Bay starter Nathaniel Dupuis, who would be ejected at 15:02 of the first for leaving his crease and getting involved in an altercation, and was replaced by Jordan Elliot the rest of the way.

The North Stars Troy Sherman would knot the affair at 1-1 with the lone marker of the middle stanza as he notched his 10th of the season at 16:17.

Daman added another early in the third to put the Norskies back in front only to see Thunder Bay’s Tyler Minoletti tie it just 10 seconds later.

Michael Johnson gave the visitors the lead again midway through the session, but the home side countered once more to force extra time as Brendan Gillis notched the equalizer with 4:21 remaining in regulation.

Skating three aside in OT, it was the North Stars’ Robinson who won it in dramatic fashion to help his club keep their win streak intact.

Elliot finished with 27 stops in relief to register the win for the North Stars while Dupuis handled 10 of 11.

Ryan Buttazzoni faced 37 attempts in defeat for Thief River Falls.
