Thunder Bay tops Fort Frances in preseason play

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars got two goals apiece from Tyler Minoletti and Kris Hamlin to help them defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 6-5 Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League preseason play at Ice for Kids Arena.

Minoletti collected both his markers in the opening frame before Jaden Gustafson got one back for the Lakers late in the session.

The two clubs then erupted for six tallies in the middle session, including four by the North Stars.

Hamlin had his two in the second while Brad Arabia and Johnny Parrott, with the eventual game-winner, supplied singles.

Jared Virtanen and Dylan Kooner were the Fort Frances marksmen in the stanza.

The Lakers rallied in the third to make it close thanks to efforts by Kooner, shorthanded, and Julian Uhryniuk at even strength, but that’s as close as they would get before time ran out.

Jesse Talakoski dished out three assists for the North Stars.

Thunder Bay outshot Fort Frances 42-26 on the night.

Nathaniel Dupuis and Dan Demaria both saw action in net for the North Stars.

Brandon Bodnar started for the Lakers and suffered the loss while Dylan Ossachuk stopped all 12 attempts he faced in 25 minutes of relief.
