RED LAKE, Ont. – Thunder Bay North Stars captain Ryan Mignault tallied twice and doled out two assists in the third period to help lead his club past the Red Lake Miners 6-3 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Saturday evening at Cochenour Arena.
After defeating the North Stars 3-2 Friday to commence the two-game weekend set, the Miners got off to a good start in this one as well as Bryce Young buried his league-leading 34th just 2:09 into the contest.
The score stayed that way until early in the second stanza when Maxime Fortin’s first drew Thunder Bay level.
Alex Erwin then put the North Stars in front at 8:17 only to see Keegan Tiringer tie it with a man advantage marker at 13:32.
Moving on to the third, Mignault kicked off his four-point session by putting the guests back on top 27 seconds in.
The back and forth affair saw Young notch No. 35 on the campaign, during a power play, with over a half of the frame to go.
However, the North Stars broke it open from there by striking three times before time expired to earn the road win.
Brendan Gillis had the eventual game-winner at 13:31 as he scored for a 10th time in 2018-19.
Picking up a man advantage, the North Stars added some insurance thanks to Kyle Auger a few shifts later before Mignault finished it off with a late empty netter to round out the night’s scoring.
Thunder Bay out shot Red Lake 32-22 on the contest with Brock Aiken picking up the win and Vince Benedetto the loss.
