Thrower thrills Thunder Bay in OT win

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  A Bradley Thrower power play goal 30 seconds into overtime was the only tally of the game as the Thunder Bay North Stars defeated the English River Miners 1-0 in a tightly-contested Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.

Thrower had an earlier opportunity to score late in the first period after being awarded a penalty shot, but he was thwarted by Miners’ netminder Reid Kilburn.

Both Kilburn and Thunder Bay goaltender Riley Corbin kept opposing shooters at bay through 60 minutes.

In OT however Thrower would win it early for the North Stars with Aaron Wesley-Chisel and Kris Hamlin drawing assists on the game-winner.

Corbin made 24 saves in posting his first shutout while Kilburn made 30 stops in helping English River earn a point on the night.
