Sommerfeld shines as Miners defeat GM Ice Dogs

RED LAKE, Ont. – Shaye Sommerfeld scored once and dished out three assists Friday to lead the Red Lake Miners to a 6-2 decision over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter Friday at Cochenour Arena.

It was all Miners in the first period as they skated out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Dante Tisi, Sommerfeld and Bryce Young, who collected his SIJHL-leading 46th.

Red Lake then added two more in the middle session starting with Tucker Evans’ first just nine seconds into the frame while Cole Bohnet’s third made it 5-0 at 8:13.

Jacob Siebenga got one back for Dryden early in the third with his 14th of the campaign before the Miners’ Keegan Tiringer and the GM Ice Dogs’ Malcom Huemmert traded markers to round out the night’s scoring.

Making 42 saves on the night earned Zach Willms the victory for Red Lake.

Jacob Anthony and Jordan Wilde both saw time in net for Dryden in defeat as they faced a combined 38 shots against.
