Wisconsin Lumberjacks at Thunder Bay North Stars
The Wisconsin Lumberjacks (3-3-1, T3) complete their season series a the Fort William Gardens against the Thunder Bay North Stars (7-2-0, 1st place) looking to even things up against the high-flying North Stars.
After dropping both games last weekend at the Gardens, the Lumberjacks returned with a bolstered lineup thanks to the recent additions to their roster and the eligibility of players to cross the US / Canadian border, and shut-out the first-place North Stars by a score of 3-0.
Led by some stellar net minding by Kyler Lowden to earn the shutout, and first period goals from Salvatore Poggiali and Caden Sutter, the disciplined Lumberjacks limited the North Stars to just two power play opportunities.
The North Stars will look to maintain or increase the gap they have over the second place Red Lake Miners with a win tonight, while the Lumberjacks can move above .500 should they be able to even the season series against the North Stars. Game time is 7:30pm at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.
Kam River Fighting Walleye at Dryden GM Ice Dogs
On Friday October 15th, the host Ice Dogs (3-3-1, T3) opened the scoring but couldn’t sustain the offence and the visiting Fighting Walleye (2-1-1, 5th place) scored 4 straight goals to take control of the game in what was their first ever visit to the Dryden Memorial Arena en route to a 5-2 road win.
The Fish got goals from 5 different scorers on the evening, with Ethan Lang, Jonah DesRosiers, Alex Enegren, Braedon Duchesne and Trenton Morriseau all adding singles. Jeremy Dunmore and Zach Fortin each chipped in with a couple of assists. Fighting Walleye netminder Eric Vanska was named first star in a game which saw his side outshot 40 – 35.
Dryden got tallies from Maxime Collette and Bryce Benfield in a losing cause.
Kam River will go for the sweep tonight which would pull them level with Dryden in the SIJHL standings with 3 games in hand. The Ice Dogs can crack the .500 mark if they salvage a split.
Game time is 7:30pm CDT from the Dryden Memorial Arena.
Red Lake Miners at Fort Frances Lakers
The Red Lake Miners (5-2-1, 2nd Place) will finish out their road series against the Lakers (0-5-0 last place) in Fort Frances looking to complete the sweep.
The Lakers, still integrating some recent additions to their roster, turned in a solid first period but found themselves in a 1-0 deficit courtesy of Red Lake’s Jordan Baranesky, who deflected a point shot in front of Fort Frances goaltender Sean Guerin for his third of the season.
It was the second period that put the game out of reach for the Lakers, with the Miners scoring four times (Nic Bolan with two, plus singles from Kenyon Nymon and Carter Albrecht). Sheldon Kelly got the home side on the scoreboard with a power play marker to make the score 5-1 after two periods of play.
The Miners added a pair of power play goals in the third off the sticks of Lucas Piekarczyk and Noah Kramps to round out the scoring. Cole Wheaton stopped 22 of 23 shots for the Miners, while Guerin took the loss for the Lakers having faced 47 shots.
The 2-game set concludes tonight, 7:30pm CDT at Fort Frances’ Ice for Kids Arena.
