SIJHL officials earn their stripes

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced today that two of their officials have earned recognition for their on-ice endeavours.

Longtime referee Nigel Black recently obtained his Level VI in the Hockey Canada Officiating Program while linesman Adam Massaro has earned an international assignment having been selected to work the upcoming World Junior A Challenge, Dec. 13-19 in Cobourg and Whitby, Ont.

Black took part in the Level VI seminar in Moncton, N.B. in early November.

Level VI is the highest level an official can obtain in the Hockey Canada.

Massaro is currently a level five official in the Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) and previously participated in the Hockey Canada Officiating Program of Excellence (HCOPE) for the Central Region.

The World Junior A Challenge features Canada East and Canada West, which features players from the Canadian Junior Hockey League competing against teams from the United States, Russia, Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Both Black and Massaro worked the SIJHL’s Bill Salonen Cup league championship series and also officiated in the 2015 Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A Championship.

The SIJHL congratulates both officials on their respective accomplishments.
