SIJHL announces suspension

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Superior International Junior Hockey League Commissioner Bryan Graham announced Tuesday the following player suspension for his actions during Game No. 5 of the SIJHL semifinal series Sunday afternoon (April 10) between the Thunder Bay North Stars and Dryden GM Ice Dogs at Memorial Arena:

DEREK MCPHAIL, (F) DRYDEN GM ICE DOGS – TWO (2) GAMES

Dryden forward Derek McPhail is suspended two games for a boarding incident in Game 5 that caused an injury to a Thunder Bay player.

Although, no penalty was assessed on the play, following a video review, McPhail is suspended under Supplementary Discipline.

He will miss Game 6 tonight and Game 7 (if necessary) of the semifinal series or Game 1 of the Bill Salonen Cup final, should the GM Ice Dogs advance.

This is the second suspension in the series under Supplementary Discipline.

Thunder Bay defencerman Joe Newhouse was suspended for Game 2 after a cross checking incident at the conclusion of Game 1.
