SIJHL announces 2012-13 schedule
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its regular season schedule for the 2012-13 campaign.
Featuring a total of 196 contests, the slate will see each of the league’s seven member clubs play a total of 56 regular season contests.
All seven SIJHL squads will be play 27 games at home and another 27 on the road.
The other two match-ups, per team, will be staged during the annual SIJHL Showcase.
That three-day event will be held Dec. 21-23 at the Heritage Sports Center in Duluth, the home of the Clydesdales.
The SIJHL’s 12th season of Jr. A hockey will commence Friday, Sept. 21 on three fronts.
Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena will be the sight as the hometown Flyers welcome the two-time defending league champion Minnesota Wilderness, who embark on their inaugural campaign based in Cloquet, Minn., after spending their first two seasons as the Wisconsin Wilderness while playing out of Spooner, Wis.
Opening night also features an original SIJHL club in action as the Dryden Ice Dogs entertain the Duluth Clydesdales at Dryden Memorial Arena.
Rounding out the evening will be the Minnesota Iron Rangers hosting the Thunder Bay North Stars in Hibbing, Minn.
The league’s other club, the Fort Frances Lakers; make their 2012-13 debut when they visit the Iron Rangers on Sept. 26 in Hoyt Lakes, Minn.
The Lakers home opener on Sept. 28 sees a re-match of last season’s SIJHL final as they host the Wilderness at Ice for Kids Arena.
Regular season action will conclude Saturday, March 9 with the Iron Rangers visiting Duluth and Fort Frances taking on Sioux Lookout.
Note — One game on the schedule, Minnesota Iron Rangers @ Thunder Bay, is still awaiting a date to be played, but will be announced as soon as it is finalized.
