Shea sets up 3 as Dryden defeats Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs picked up three assists from Braden Shea to aid in a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Dryden opened the scoring 13:33 into the contest on Dylan Winsor’s 15th of the season, only to see Elias Thompson strike three minutes later for Minnesota as his seventh tied it.

The GM Ice Dogs regained the lead late in the first thanks to a Malcolm Huemmert effort with 23 seconds left in the session.

Heading to the middle session, the Iron Rangers came back to draw level once more as Joshua Baker put in his team-best 17th as he scored for a third straight outing while also running a consecutive game point streak to four in succession.

Huemmert put Dryden ahead once more early in the third before teammate Evan Pakkala picked up the eventual game-winner at 5:14.

Battling back, Bryce Kopp brought Minnesota back to within one a couple shifts later on an assist from Elliot VanOrsdell, who collected his first SIJHL point on the play.

It stayed 4-3 until the final minute of regulation when Eric Stout put one into an empty to help secure the win for the GM Ice Dogs as he  has now etched his name on the score sheet in 11 straight outings for Dryden.

Jacob Antony faced 18 shots to pickup the win for the GM Ice Dogs while Iron Rangers starter Synjen Amende made 53 stops in the narrow defeat.
