Sauer stops 34 as Norskies blank Miners

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Caleb Sauer turned aside all 34 shots he faced to post his first shutout of the season in backstopping the Thief River Falls Norskies to a 6-0 victory over the Red Lake Miners Superior International Junior Hockey League contest Friday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Thief River Falls skated out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play thanks to goals from Jack Michels and Jonah Henderson.

It was more Norskies in the middle session as they tacked on two more markers there with Tyler Johnson connecting on the power play at 3:25 before Bryce Johnson scored at 15:50 to extend the home side’s cushion.

In the third, Tyler Johnson struck shorthanded early on before Henderson banged in his second of the night during a two-man advantage in the back half of the stanza to round out the scoring.

While Sauer register the shutout win, Cody Levesque suffered the setback for Red Lake in his SIJHL debut aftering facing 42 shots against.

The two teams will tangle again Saturday at 7 p.m. back at ‘The Ralph.’
