Red Lake swamps Minnesota

RED LAKE, Ont. – Bryce Young and Stratton Pickett both tallied twice while Cole Bohnet dished out a career-high four assists as the Red Lake Miners went on to crush the Minnesota Iron Rangers 9-0 Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Cochenour Arena.

Red Lake took control early grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Michael Di Lullo, Young and Pickett.

The Miners then blasted it open in the middle stanza as they tacked on four goals to go up by seven after 40 minutes.

Young, Ryan Patterson and Sean Gula, with his first, all scored at even strength while Pickett had one while his club was shorthanded.

They then finished off the romp in the back off of the third on goals by Connor Jacobs and Ty Lawrence.

Zach Willms made 20 saves to record his first SIJHL shutout in also picking up the win for Red Lake.

Nick Corneliusen and Synjen Amende both saw time in net for the Iron Rangers in defeat as the duo faced a combined 57 shots against in the loss.
