Red Lake rocks Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Michael Di Lullo and Spencer Milne had five points each to help the Red Lake Miners drop the Minnesota Iron Rangers 10-3 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

After Milne opened the scoring just past the five-minute mark of the contest, Garret Wojcicki tied it for Minnesota at 8:22.

However, special teams helped Red Lake tack on two more before the first period was complete as Di Lullo and Keegan Tiringer both connected on the power play.

Action in the middle stanza saw the Miners break it open as they notched four unanswered goals in the session to go up 7-1 as Ryan Patterson, Di Lullo, Kyle Uzelman and Morgan Venne all found the back of the net.

A free-wheeling final frame saw the two sides combine for five tallies, including three by the visitors.

Milne and Caleb Paisley scored 11 seconds apart to extend the Red Lake lead before Wyatt Phaneuf got one back for the Iron Rangers at 6:18.

Another by Paisley accounted for the Miners’ third man advantage goal of the night before Christian Ward rounded out the scoring for Minnesota in the late going.

Vince Benedetto picked up the win in net for Red Lake while Nick Corneliusen suffered the loss for the Iron Rangers.
