Pakkala picks up 2 as Dryden defeats Minnesota

DRYDEN, Ont. – Dryden GM Ice Dogs rookie forward Evan Pakkala had his first two-goal Superior International Junior Hockey League game Wednesday to help lift his side to a 6-1 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers at Memorial Arena.

A strong start helped Dryden gain control early as they tallied four times before the opening period was 11 minutes old.

Cameron Coutre started the outburst 4:37 in while teammate Braden Shea picked up the eventual game-winner a couple shifts later.

Pakkala then made it 3-0 at 6:10 before Trey Palermo’s fourth put the home side up by four.

Moving on to the middle session, Rayman Bassi and Pakkala added to the GM Ice Dogs lead as they went up by six after 40 minutes.

Minnesota would get on the board in the third to dash Dryden starter Jordan Wilde’s shutout bid with 12:12 remaining as Zach Ash set-up Christian Ward for his fourth tally of the campaign.

With an earlier assist, Eric Stout of the GM Ice Dogs extended a point streak to 10 in the triumph.

Wilde made 16 saves to pick up the win while Iron Rangers netminder Nick Corneliusen was peppered with 56 shots in defeat.
