North Stars Turner named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that Thunder Bay North Stars captain Kenny Turner has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Jan. 17.
In three road contests over the weekend the North Stars forward recorded eight points in a trio of victories while also helping his hometown side extend a season-high win streak to eight.
The 20-year-old Turner began with two goals and an assist Friday in 4-2 decision over the English River Miners.
One night later he helped set-up his club’s first goal in a 3-1 win over the Miners.
Turner than capped off his week by notching his 10th tally of the season and doling out a trio of assists as Thunder Bay rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat English River 5-3 Sunday afternoon.
Currently riding an eight-game point streak, Turner has moved into a tie for seventh overall in SIJHL scoring with 34 points, including 24 assists.
Also earning consideration for Amyotte’s player of the week honours was Andrew Willner, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Troy Williams, (D) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Kyle Carignan, (G) Minnesota Iron Rangers and, Matthew O’Neill (F) English River Miners.
