North Stars take 2nd straight vs. Norskies

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Joel Willan tallied twice, including the game-winner, while netminder Brock Aiken finished with 34 stops as the Thunder Bay North Stars defeated the Thief River Falls Norskies 4-1 in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.

After defeating Thief River Falls 5-2 Friday at the Gardens, Thunder Bay got the jump on the visitors once again by opening the night’s scoring on Keighan Gerrie’s 26th 77 seconds into the middle stanza.

Willan added another for the North Stars at 3:25 to put the hosts up by two.

The Norskies cut into the deficit five minutes later as Blake Nelson finished off the work of Jake Eischen and Alec Severson as he picked up his 18th of the campaign to make it 2-1 after two.

Willan’s second of the night, and 16th overall, made it 3-1 Thunder Bay 8:52 into the third before Michael Stubbs wrapped it up with a shorthanded, empty-net effort in the final minute.

Fletcher Bolda was busy in defeat in the Thief River Falls net as he faced 49 shots in a losing cause.
