THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars broke open a third period tie with a trio of unanswered tallies to pull out a 5-2 victory over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Friday evening at the Fort William Gardens.
Robert Tyska gave the home side the early lead as he picked up his fourth of the campaign at 2:52.
Dryden’s Eric Stout came back with the equalizer at 13:05, but Thunder Bay came right back to go back on top thanks to Ryan Mignault.
Action in the middle stanza saw the visitors draw level once more when Tyler Browning picked up his second at 18:44.
On the power to play begin the third, the North Stars regained the lead for good just after the GM Ice Dogs penalty had expired as defenceman Kyle Auger buried the eventual game-winner 64 seconds into the session.
A late man advantage helped the hosts add some insurance at 17:06 on Joel Willan’s 10th.
Josh Bryant then added his first in the league 25 seconds later to round out the scoring.
Keighan Gerrie had two assists to aid the Thunder Bay cause.
Brock Aiken made 38 saves to pick up the win for the North Stars while Carson Murison was peppered with 59 shots in defeat for Dryden.
