COCHENOUR, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars stormed back from a two-goal deficit in the third period and notched three unanswered markers in the final frame to upend the English River Miners 4-3 Thursday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Cochenour Arena.

After arriving late to due travel issues with their bus en route to the game and a 45-minute later than originally scheduled start time, Thunder Bay saw themselves down by a pair after the opening stanza on Miners’ markers from Matt O’Neill and Jamie Driedger just 11 seconds apart.

The North Stars got one back early in the second period as Joe Newhouse scored on the power play at 1:14.

In that final session, Thunder Bay began their rally just past the five-minute mark of the stanza as Brad Thrower connected on a man advantage opportunity.

Thrower then added another at 7:47 as the North Stars’ forward struck shorthanded to knot the affair at 3-3.

The visitors then finished off the comeback with 7:29 left in regulation on Troy Sherman’s game-winner.

Newhouse and Nicholas Nigro aided the Thunder Bay’s come from behind triumph with two assists apiece.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured the North Stars by a 47-37 margin with Jordan Elliot picking up the win and Michael Lenko the loss.

The same two teams meet again Friday at 7:30 p.m. back at Cochenour Arena.
