THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars goaltender Dougie Newhouse has been named its Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 3.
In two starts last week, the 19-year-old Thunder Bay product posted shutouts in both of them in backstopping the North Stars to a pair of victories and help the SIJHL leaders extend a consecutive game winning streak to 12 in succession.
Sporting a career single-season high 16 wins already in 2018-19, Newhouse has won his past five starts and gone 11-1-1 in his past 13 appearances.
His overall record on the campaign is 16-2-1 while his four shutouts are also a personal best.
Newhouse presently sits tied for second in the SIJHL in wins (16), is second in both goals-against average (2.09) and save percentage (.926) and shares the league lead in shutouts (4) with teammate Brock Aiken.
Also earning consideration for player of the week honours was Zach Willms, (G) Red Lake Miners; Brett Piper, (F) Thief River Falls Norskies; Jacob Siebenga, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Nick Lucas, (F) Fort Frances Lakers and Cam Birkeland, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
