North Stars Ground Bombers

By James Brohm
Sioux Lookout, ON – The Thunder Bay North Stars overtook the Sioux Lookout Bombers in the game and in the standings. A textbook road game for the North Stars silenced the Bombers and their fans on a Thursday night at the Hangar. The home team didn’t give the 246 Bombers faithful in attendance much to get excited about.
The North Stars controlled much of the play in the first period registering the lion’s share of the shots on net. Jonah DesRosiers scored the period’s only goal at 14:40, snapping a shot past Ethan Penner on the rush. It was also a rare penalty-free period, which always seems to serve the visiting team more than the home team.
The second period started much in the same fashion with the North Stars going up 2-0 with a quick goal at the 1:12 mark. It was Dimitri Trahiotis’ 9th of the season. The Stars padded the lead further when Dylan Winsor tipped a Jonah DesRosiers point shot at 9:06. Sioux Lookout would finally get on the board at 14:41 when Owen Riffel grabbed a clean face-off win by Connor Burke and whistled it past Thunder Bay netminder Keenan Marks.
Easton Glousher would put the final nail in the coffin just past the halfway point of the third period to make the final score 4-1.
The North Stars spoil Ethan Penner’s Bombers debut and Thunder Bay native and Kings alumni, Keenan Marks would pick up his fifth win in six starts this season.
The North Stars leapfrog the Bombers and Ice Dogs in the standings to 3rd place with 25 points. Thunder Bay will take the rest of the weekend off and will host the Dryden GM Ice Dogs for a couple mid-week games next Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bombers will have to shake off the loss quickly and refocus as the Wisconsin Lumberjacks are in town for games at the Hangar Friday and Saturday.
