North Stars continue success over Lakers

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars got the game-winning goal and two assists from Aaron Wesley-Chisel to help them continuie their success over the Fort Frances Lakers as they skated to a 4-2 triumph Tuesday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

Of the eight losses, in regulation, the league-leading Lakers have suffered this season, seven have come against the North Stars, who improved their record against Fort Frances in 2015-16 to 7-5-0-1.

Fort Frances did get off to a good start in this one, notching the game’s opening tally just under three minutes in as Christian Ripley converted during an early man advantage opportunity.

Thunder Bay tied it before the first period was complete as Brad Arabia notched his 16th goal of the season at 14:05.

Ripley’s second of the night and 16th overall put the Lakers back in front early in the middle stanza as he struck shorthanded.

Kris Hamlin drew Thunder Bay level once again at 12:12 of the second converting on the power play.

Wesley-Chisel then supplied the eventual difference maker a couple minutes later as the home side took a 3-2 lead.

The North Stars then added one more with 80 seconds left in the period courtesy of Troy Sherman, who banged in a Jesse Talakoski pass out from behind the net as he converted from in close.

Nicholas Nigro dished out two assists to aid the offensive cause for Thunder Bay.

North Stars netminder Riley Corbin did the rest finishing the night with 41 saves to earn the victory.

Brandon Bodnar faced 40 shots in defeat for Fort Frances.
