THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars may not have any hockey left to play this season, but they’re still trying to do plenty of good in the community.
Faced with a shutdown of their 2019-20 campaign, the first-place Stars have turned their attention to their $225,000 Win A Lakefront Lot raffle, and have decided to expand the list of charities benefiting from the draw to include Roots to Harvest’s breakfast program.
Roots to Harvest is helping to fill in the gap left by the closure of food programs when the province closed Ontario schools for two weeks, a move that is expected to be extended in the near future.
They are providing food at a variety of locations throughout the city.
“We’ve decided to bring Roots to Harvest on board,” said North Stars promotions and marketing manager Mike Tallari.
“We’re providing, for sales up until May 1, an additional $5 from each ticket to Roots to Harvest, specifically for their breakfast program.”
Tallari added the team was looking for a way to contribute to the COVID-19 efforts, and this seemed like the perfect fit.
“It’s just more of how the North Stars are trying to give back to the community,” he said.
The 1.5-acre grand prize, which will be drawn for on June 1, is located on Superior Shores Road in Shuniah, Ont.
There are also two early-bird prizes of $1,750 remaining, including one being drawn for on Friday.
Tickets are one for $50, four for $180 and eight for $330 and are available online at www.winalakefrontlot.com or by phone at 632-4896.
Other beneficiaries to the proceeds include Our Kids Count, the Boys and Girls Club of Thunder Bay and the Regional Food Distribution Association.
