North Stars blank Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Jacob Brown tallied twice and added an assist while Brock Aiken made 22 saves to record his Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading fifth shutout of the season as the Thunder Bay North Stars went on to blank the Fort Frances Lakers 5-0 Friday at Ice for Kids Arena.

Alex Erwin picked up the eventual game-winner for Thunder Bay 6:44 into the contest as he notched his 18th goal of the campaign.

Brown then added his first of the night for the North Stars later in the frame as the visitors carried a 2-0 cushion into the intermission.

It was more Thunder Bay in the second stanza as Keighan Gerrie buried his 32nd of the season to add to the lead with the lone marker of the period.

Jonathan Kilby then swiped the puck off a Fort Frances player in the third then skated down the right wing and wired a shot high past Fort Frances netminder Jacob Gnidziejko at 4:10.

Brown then wrapped up the night’s scoring by finishing off a Gerrie feed at 15:09.

While Aiken posted the shutout, Gnidziejko was busy in the Lakers net as he faced 48 shots in defeat.
