Norskies break open close game vs. Iron Rangers with big 3rd period

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies broke open a close game with the Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday by collecting six unanswered third period tallies to pull out a 10-2 triumph in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest held at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Alec Severson and Blake Nelson staked the visitors to an early lead in the opening frame before Joshua Baker’s eighth put the Iron Rangers on the board in the final moments of the frame.

Thief River Falls then tacked on two more in the middle session to go up 4-1 thanks to Tyler Johnson and Michael Crosbie.

Minnesota cut into the deficit at 15:30 when Matt Turnbull scored on the power play to make it a 4-2 game after 40 minutes.

However, the third was all Norskies as they put up a six-pack to win going away.

Scoring in the session for the guests were Boe Bjorge, who extended a point streak to 18 games, Crosbie, Bryce Johnson, Nelson and Tate Steffan with a pair.

In all, Nelson finished with five points in the win, Crosbie had four and defenceman Connor Bowey doled out four assists in the decision.

Fletcher Bolda made 23 saves in net for Thief River Falls to record the victory.

Synjen Amende and Nick Cornelisuen both saw time in the Iron Rangers’ net in the loss.
