Miners’ Young named SIJHL Play It Again Sports Player of the Week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Red Lake Miners forward Bryce Young has been named its Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 7.

In a pair of outings last week, the 18-year-old from The Pas, Man., amassed seven points helping Red Lake skate to a couple of victories.

Young started by doling out three assists in a Miners’ overtime decision in Dryden Friday before notching his first career hat trick, including picking up the game-winning goal, and setting up another marker in a home ice triumph Saturday against Thief River Falls.

With points in four straight to start the season, Young sits tied for fourth in league scoring as he has tallied five times and picked up five helpers along the way.

Also earning consideration for player of the week honours was Brett Piper, (F) Thief River Falls Norskies; Keigan Gerrie, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Reece Hopfner, (F) Fort Frances Lakers;, (D); Braden Shea, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Cam Birkeland, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
