THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Red Lake Miners goaltender Zach Willms has been named its Monkey Team Sports, by Northland, Performer of the Month for December.
In five starts during the time frame the 20-year-old netminder from Camrose, Alta., was unbeaten in regulation going 3-0-2-0 helping Red Lake pick up eight points in the standings while aiding the Miners in staying in second place overall in league play entering the New Year.
Willms currently boasts a 13-4-3-1 record between the pipes for Red Lake and leads all SIJHL stoppers in both goals-against average and save percentage at 2.81 and .924 respectively.
His two shutouts on the campaign ties him for the league lead and he’s second in victories with his 13 triumphs.
In his second season in the SIJHL with the Miners, Willms sports solid 38-13-4-1 numbers, including four shutouts and a .922 save mark.
Also earning consideration for the SIJHL’s Monkey Team Sports, by Northland, Performer of the Month for December was Cody Bruchkowski, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Justin Pitari, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Jack Michels, (F) Thief River Falls Norskies; Flynn Perry, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Stars and Cameron Birkeland, (D) Wisconsin Lumberjacks.
