Miners Take Weekend With OT Win Over Fish

For the third straight night the Kam River Fighting Walleye and the Red Lake Miners would face off at the Cochenour Arena.  Looking to avenge a 9-1 loss on Saturday the Walleye would go back to Eric Vanska in net while Jack Osmond would get his second start in a row for the Miners.

Walleye would get on the board early when Brodie McLeod took advantage of a bad Miners clearing attempt and beat Osmond from the point for his first goal. Miners couldn’t take advantage of any power play opportunities in the first period and after 20 minutes of play the Walleye lead 1-0. Shots on goal in the period were tied at 11.

Second period action saw the Miners strike early on the power play.  Aiden Corbett broke in alone and beat Vanska over the glove for his third of the season just 20 seconds into the period.  Max Leduc would beat Osmond for his second of the season at 7:01 to give the Walleye a 2-1 lead.  Jeremy Dunmore would take advantage of a Miners miscue to give the Walleye a 3-1 lead at 9:27.  Quentin Sidaway would rip a wrist shot past Vanska for his second since joining the Miners at 13:09 to pull the Miners within 1.  After 40 minutes of play the Walleye lead 3-2 and shots on goal are 24-22 in favour of the Walleye.

Trailing by one R.J. Dickie blasted a slap shot past Vanska for his fourth of the season at 13:00 to tie the game at 3.  Jack Osmond made a few big saves in the period to keep the game tied.  After 60 minutes the game is tied at 3 and heading to overtime.  Shots on goal after three periods are 42 -27 in favour of the Walleye.

Kam River starts the OT session with a 4 on 3 power play.  It appeared that the game was over early in the overtime session but the referee  waved the goal off due to incidental conduct with Osmond.  Kam River would have to come back to the ice after leaving and celebrating.  Both teams would get a couple chances but not succeed and this would go to a shoot out. The first shooters for both sides would score before both goalies would stop 7 straight attempts.  Max Leduc was unable to convert on the Walleyes ninth attempt then Austin Derzaph would rip a shot past Vanska for a Miners win.

In a rematch of last years SIJHL final the Miners would take 5 of 6 points from the Walleye over the three game series.
