Miners run win streak to 5 with win over Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Bryce Young tallied twice and assisted on two others while Ethan Stuckless had a pair goals as well to help lead the Red Lake Miners to a 5-2 victory vs. the Fort Frances Lakers Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Ice for Kids Arena.

It was all Red Lake from the on set as they struck for four first period markers to take early control on the contest.

Young and Stuckless both tallied twice in the frame, with Young’s second coming while the Miners were shorthanded.

A power play in the middle stanza helped Fort Frances get on the board with Noah Loveday picking up his fourth of the campaign at 14:46.

Up a skater early in the third saw the visitors restore their four-goal cushion as Spencer Milne supplied his seventh at 1:39 during the man advantage.

Nick Lucas brought the home side closer with under nine minutes to go, but that would be the night’s final goal before time expired.

Zach Willms made 42 saves to record the win for Red Lake while Matt Booth made 24 stops in a losing cause for Fort Frances.

Next up in the SIJHL will be the league’s All-Star Game and Skills Competition Wednesday back at Ice for Kids Arena beginning at 6 p.m. CT.
