After a disappointing opening night the Red Lake Miners came out on Monday with something to prove. That is exactly what the home team accomplished with a 7-3 victory over the visiting Dryden Ice Dogs.
Both teams competed at a brisk pace to begin the game before Jordan Baranesky broke the ice with his first goal of the season at 16:23.
Business picked up in the second though with the Miners adding four more goals before Dryden stopped the streak. Rylin Philpott-Way, Mario DeCapite, Ryland Strauss and Ethan Pool each notched their first career CJHL goals that gave Red Lake a 5-0 advantage.
Dryden scored late in the second and again early in the third on the powerplay to make it 5-2.
First-time goal scorers were not done though as Nic Bolin got his name on the scoresheet at 12:15 of the third. Sean Gula added one more powerplay tally to wrap up the first victory of the season.
The Miners and Ice Dogs will meet again this Wednesday and Thursday in Dryden.
