Miners rally late to edge Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The English River Miners rallied with a pair of goals in the final five minutes of regulation to pull out a 3-2 road victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Saturday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota opened the scoring 7:19 into the contest as Evan Armstrong beat Miners starter Reid Kilburn for his first marker as an Iron Ranger.

English River battled back to tie it five minutes when Konnar Dechaine notched his ninth of the season.

Special teams allowed the home side to pick up the lone tally of the middle session as Dan Sarnecki scored on the power play at 5:44.

The score stayed that way until the latter stages of regulation when Ryker Moreau scored the equalizer with 4:20 to go in the third.

Then 72 seconds later Brandon Schaber supplied the game-winner as English River completed the comeback victory.

Kilburn made 28 saves to pick up the decision for the Miners.

Alex Burke faced 33 shots in a losing cause for Minnesota.
